The idea behind these protected designations is clear: no one should be able to produce a similar product and use the geographical link in the product name to emphasise their product. Skedvi bröd is a bread that is baked and looks and tastes a certain way. It is also produced in Stora Skedvi parish in the province of Dalarna. Nowhere else.  

The following traditional Swedish products have been registered with such designations:

Bruna bönor från Öland 

These brown beans are grown on the island of Öland, known for its unique soil and climate, which give the beans their distinctive flavour and texture.

Kullings kalvdans

A traditional Swedish dessert made from colostrum milk, which is the first milk produced by cows after giving birth. This delicacy is known for its creamy texture and mild, sweet taste.

Lappländsk Fjällröding 

This Arctic char is sourced from the pristine waters of Lapland. The cold, clean environment contributes to the fish's delicate flavour and firm texture.

Skedvi bröd

A traditional crispbread from the region of Dalarna, known for its unique baking process in wood-fired ovens, which imparts a distinctive taste and texture.

Svecia

A traditional Swedish cheese with a history dating back to the 13th century. It is known for its rich, slightly acidic taste and is produced in specific regions of Sweden.

Skånsk spettekaka

A unique cake from the southern region of Skåne, made by slowly baking a batter of eggs, sugar, and potato starch on a rotating spit.

Svensk  Aquavit

It is a traditional spirit drink with a rich history and unique production methods. The flavour of fennel is always perceptible. Svensk Akvavit is consumed unmixed with the Swedish smörgåsbord, starters, and main courses during meals.

Svensk Punsch

This is a sweet and simmering drink with a yellowish to brownish colour and a distinct hint of Indonesian arrack. It is most commonly used with coffee after a meal, but there is also a strong tradition of drinking Swedish Punsch with pea soup and as a social drink.

Svensk Vodka

Swedish vodka is a distilled spirit, usually colourless and unflavoured, made from grain, root vegetables or, in some cases, vegetables. The alcohol is distilled in Sweden and diluted with Swedish water to an alcoholic strength of between 40% and 60%.

Sörmlands Ädel

A blue cheese from the Sörmland region, characterised by its creamy texture and rich, tangy flavour.

Vindelnrökt skinka

This smoked ham from Vindeln is renowned for its unique smoking process, which uses local alder wood to impart a distinct, smoky flavour.

Vit färsksaltad Östgötagurka

These fresh salted cucumbers from Östergötland are known for their crisp texture and refreshing taste, achieved through traditional salting methods.

Värmländskt skrädmjöl

A type of flour made from roasted oats, originating from the Värmland region. It is used in various traditional Swedish baked goods and has a nutty flavour.

Äkta Gränna Polkagrisar

Authentic peppermint candy sticks from Gränna, made using traditional methods that date back to the mid-19th century. These candies are known for their distinctive red and white stripes and refreshing peppermint flavour.

Upplandskubb

A traditional bread from the Uppland region, made using a specific recipe and method that has been passed down through generations.

Kalix Löjrom

This is a type of caviar made from the roe of the vendace fish, found in the northern parts of the Baltic Sea. The unique environment and traditional methods used in its production contribute to its distinctive flavour and quality.

Hånnlamb

This is a lamb meat product from the island of Gotland. The unique climate and vegetation of Gotland give the meat its special flavour.

Hushållsost

A traditional Swedish cheese known for its mild flavour and smooth texture. It has been a staple in Swedish households for centuries.


These protected designations not only help preserve Sweden's culinary traditions but also ensure that consumers receive authentic products with guaranteed quality. By recognising and protecting these products, Sweden continues to celebrate and promote its rich gastronomic heritage on both a national and international stage.
