Sweden-Singapore collaboration in health innovation

WHAT
  • Sweden and Singapore have a long-standing collaboration in healthcare and life sciences, celebrated through partnerships between medical universities, university hospital exchanges, innovation agencies and industry engagements.
  • In November 2024, to consolidate and highlight cooperation in the medical field, Sweden and Singapore have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in healthcare. The MoU positions Sweden and Singapore as strategic partners in advancing global health innovation and encourages partnerships and exchanges between the two nations that will lead to groundbreaking solutions addressing global health challenges.

HOW
  • To facilitate breakthrough healthcare technologies and solutions, Business Sweden has initiated Global Health Innovation Network (GHIN) – a Sweden-Singapore partnership framework focused on identifying, implementing, and scaling prioritized health innovations for screening, diagnosis, and monitoring.
  • The initiative focuses on the actual implementation of innovative technology, which is recognized as a major challenge globally in driving healthcare innovation forward. The key areas of focus are Precision medicine, AI in healthcare, Sustainability in healthcare, 5G (and beyond) in healthcare technology.
  • The initiative serves as a foundation for sustainable and long-term partnerships among hospitals, industry stakeholders, and supporting organizations in Sweden and Singapore. This collaboration also marks the first concrete initiative under the government-to-government MoU on healthcare innovation collaboration.
  • GHIN has been created as an open innovation ecosystem, welcoming collaborations with Swedish, Singaporean, and international stakeholders. While the establishment of the GHIN is still in the early stages, the founding members – Sahlgrenska University Hospital, National University Health Systems, AstraZeneca, Ericsson and Business Sweden aim to onboard more partners in the years ahead, to amplify collective efforts in creating more effective healthcare solutions globally.
