Opportunities with the green transition in Malaysia
WHAT
Malaysia is making significant progress in its quest for sustainability, focusing on renewable energy adoption and reducing carbon emissions. The country’s goal of reaching carbon neutrality by 2050 reflects a proactive approach to combating climate change and ensuring economic stability.
HOW
Malaysia has laid out ambitious plans to transition to electric vehicles (EVs) and adopt sustainable mobility through initiatives such as the Low Carbon Mobility Blueprint. By 2030, the government aims to significantly increase EV adoption, supported by enhanced infrastructure, incentives, and public awareness. Similarly, Sweden has been a leader in EV development, with targets to achieve 100% of new car sales as rechargeable vehicles and a ban on new internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles by 2030. This shared focus on EVs by Malaysia and Sweden highlights opportunities to reduce emissions and drive innovation in the automotive sector.
In addition to green mobility, Malaysia is accelerating its shift towards renewable energy. With targets to generate 31% of its electricity from renewable sources by 2025 and 70% by 2050, the National Energy Transition Roadmap underscores the country's determination to abate carbon emissions and ensure energy security.
