Development of the first 100% Green Port in Thailand

- The development of Laem Chabang Port Phase 3 is divided into two phases: phase 1 (3-1) focuses on infrastructure development, while phase 2 (3-2) focuses on energy-related business areas.
- The development direction of Laem Chabang Phase 3 is also aiming to be green, using the Rotterdam Model to implement clean energy, renewable energy, and further develop Green Hydrogen production and usage, making Laem Chabang Phase 3 the first 100% Green Port in Thailand.

Electric trucks and battery-swapping technology:
- Switching to electric trucks can save approximately 1,000 tonnes per day of diesel consumption.
- This would result in fuel cost savings of around 800 million baht per year.
- It would also lead to a reduction of approximately 48,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions per year.
Solar power:
- The demand for solar power at Laem Chabang Phase 3 is projected to increase by an average of 11.1% CAGR by 2036.
- An estimated investment of around 600 million baht (171 million SEK) is expected for solar power alone
- This would result in a reduction of approximately 4,900 tonnes of CO2 emissions per year.
Cargo transport systems:
- The development plan includes the establishment of a Single Rail Transfer Operator (SRTO) for cargo transport by railway.
- The port would be able to handle up to 6 million TEUs per year.
- This would reduce transportation costs by around 1.2 billion baht per year and CO2 emissions by approximately 790,000 tonnes.
Public-private sector partnership:
- The Laem Chabang Phase 3 development project is pursued through a public-private sector partnership.
- The total project value is about 110 billion baht.
- The state invests approximately 50 billion baht, while the private sector invests about 60 billion baht. (17 billion SEK)
- The private sector includes GPC International Terminal Co Ltd, a joint venture between Gulf Co (40% shares), PTT Tank Terminal Co (30%), and CHEC Oversea Infrastructure (30%).
Project timeline:
- The project has experienced a delay of about 2 years. The project may start 2025-2026.
- The delay is due to complications in the process of land reclamation.
