Space exploration backed by Sweden-India MoU
What
Sweden-India relations in space are more than 38 years old. Sweden and India have an MoU in Space since 1986 which was again highlighted as collaboration area in Sweden-India Joint Action Plan, agreed by PM Stefan Löfven and PM Narendra Modi in 2018.
India is poised for the next wave of growth in space sector driven by mega-shifts in policy, increasing private participation and planned strategic missions by 2030. India is one of the fastest growing space industries with a high success rate. India’s space industry is forecasted to grow up to US$ 100 Bn by 2040 and ranks 5th globally in number of spacetech startups.
Sweden is home to diversified space ecosystem consisting of large corporates and rapidly maturing space start-ups spread across Kiruna, Uppsala, Stockholm, Gothenberg. There are 20+ large space corporates and 50+ fast development start-up ecosystem
Sweden and India bring unique capabilities in space technology that create an ideal ground for establishing long term partnerships. India has a clear ambition to explore the universe, other planets and also to send humans to space. Sweden has lot to offer to India both from institutions and space tech start-up companies.
How
Sweden-India Space Intiative will be a joint program between IN-SPACe and Team Sweden to provide an opportunity for promotion of space capabilities, enbale industry interactions, create awareness, provide networking platform and potential periodic engagements between both the countries.
Activities planned as part of the initiative:
- Swedish Space Delegation visit to Bangalore and conduct the first joint 'Sweden-India Space Industry Day' in collaboration with IN-SPACe at ISRO HQ Bangalore
- Engagement with INSPACe on broader collaboration areas

Business Delegation from Sweden to India
Business Sweden will organize Swedish Space delegation to India accompanying Mr. Mats Persson to India for business visits and meeting with important stakeholders in Indian spacetech ecosystem
Objective of the Sweden-India Space Delegation will be to:
- Enable industry interaction and awareness creation (companies’ presentations on specific areas such as sustainability in space, propulsion, etc.) in collaboration with INSPACe and ISRO
- Provide networking platform (connecting companies/academia based on interests expressed)
- Align on potential periodic industry, academia or G2G engagements to review or resolve any challenges
