Indonesia Super Grid Development

 

WHAT

Inter-Island Transmission Grid Projects:  

  • Sumatera – Java Interconnection is projected to be able to distribute 2.6 GW of power for Java's needs starting in 2033  
  • Kalimantan – Java Interconnection aims to utilize the potential of hydropower in Kalimantan which can be distributed 5 GW of power to Java by 2040  
  • Sumatera – Batam Interconnection is projected to be able to distribute new and renewable energy 1.8 GW of power from Sumatera to Batam – Bintan by 2028  
  • Sumatera – Peninsular Interconnection aims to deliver energy from potential NRE generators in Sumatera which has not yet been distributed to Java and Batam by 2033  
  • Sumba – Bali – Java Interconnection aims to send the potential 2GW energy from the solar power potential in Sumba to load centers in Bali and Java.  


Efficient Grid Management in collaboration with PLN, such as:  

  • Building smart grids and flexible generation as a solution to overcome. Wind & Solar (VRE) intermittency which planned to increase from 5 GW to 28 GW by 2040.  
  • Utilization of Flexible AC Transmission System (FACTS), Energy Storage System and Pump Storage technology.  
  • Utilization of loss-reducing technologies such as superconductors and HVDC.  
  • Smart maintenance on transmissions such as MCC and visual remote inspection.  
  • Development of PLN’s Smart Control System to manage national smart power plants, smart transmissions, smart microgrids, and smart distributions.  

 

HOW

Business Sweden is organizing the following promotional activities to capture the business opportunities connected to the development of Indonesia’s grid system:  

  • Indonesia Energy Delegation Visit to Sweden in Q1/Q2 2025.  
  • Business Accelerator Program Southeast Asia 2025 (annual program) is a program between 12 and 18 months aimed at Swedish small and medium-sized companies with solutions in the renewable energy and energy efficiency sector to support its business and market development in Southeast Asia  
  • Trade to Development Renewable Energy 2025.  
  • SISP Renewable Energy Conference 2025 (annual program) is a long-term promotional program in prioritized industries for Swedish companies and authorities to utilize Team Sweden and promote their products and services in Indonesia.
