India-Sweden Healthcare Innovation Centre (ISHIC)
WHAT
- Even though India has achieved the doctor to patient ratio of 1:1000 set by WHO, achieving the health equity across India especially in the rural areas is still a challenge.
- Digital tools are likely to improve the health equity and accessibility among diverse income groups and demographics. The adoption of digital tools increased during the pandemic and is continuing to grow post pandemic.
- The patients' preference for sophisticated tools and increasing affordability among the middle-class population have contributed to healthcare innovations growth in India.
- Digital Health market in India is expanding at around 25% CAGR with a focus towards telemedicine, mobile-based solutions, Electronic Health Records (EHR), Wearables and Virtual Assistants.
- However, adoption of these innovative solutions is hindered by process and skill gaps resulting in a need to drive innovation across the healthcare.
How
- In 2020, a tri-partite agreement was signed between two of India's premier healthcare institutes - AlIMS Delhi (All India Institute of Medical Sciences), AlIMS Jodhpur and Sweden's Trade Commissioner's office to India (Business Sweden in India) to implement India-Sweden Healthcare Innovation Centre (ISHIC).
- The Centre’s is developed as a cross-country collaboration in a quadruple-helix model encompassing academia, government, policy makers and industry partners / start-ups and is continuing to provide an ecosystem that fosters open innovation both from Indian and Swedish counterparts.
- Through the centre, we were able to touch over 100 000 lives through partnership with multiple state & central government institutions.
- Over 30 startups were supported in their growth journey which enabled increased reach & valuation to these startups.
- ~2000 nurses were upskilled through this program.
- Best-in-class cancer care delivery model is created and is continuing to run at AIIMS Jodhpur impacting the lives of over 3000 cancer patients.
- New & efficient treatment methods of Swedish solutions are being piloted.
